The best Jubilee picnic ideas – we’ve got you covered

As we approach the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations, we are sharing some wonderfully delicious American picnic ideas, guaranteed to bring a sense of fun and regal-ness to any British celebration.

There is perhaps no bigger gathering of picnics across America than on 4th July – Independence Day. Americans all over the country gather up their picnic blankets and head out to watch a dizzying and dazzling display of fireworks. On this day, many picnic hampers will have a crispy juice selection of fried chicken pieces for people to snack on, either warm or cold. Here at Britzels, we suggest blitzing up your Britzel pieces to a fine crumb and using them to coat your chicken for frying. Simply use the pretzel crumbs instead of flour or breadcrumbs. This will result in a super crunchy and absolutely moreish coating every single time.

Americans also love chicken salad – shredded or diced cooked chicken, mixed with lashings of mayo and some chopped celery. Why not create a take on the British classic, Coronation Chicken and make it fruity? To add some serious texture and flavour, add in some chopped Britzel pieces and you will never look back.

The classic Caesar salad is always a picnic pleaser, on both sides of the pond. We like to add Britzels to ours instead of croutons for an altogether more sophisticated and unique spin. To go an extra mile, add some steamed or roasted salmon as well.

Whatever you do, don’t forget dessert. An all-American apple pie is always a hit. Blitz up Britzels and mix with melted butter to make the crust for your dessert. You will not regret adding that extra salty, savoury element. It is perhaps the best and most deserving way to celebrate 70 years of the queen in style.

Of course, there is nothing finer than a cold Pimm’s on any Bank Holiday, so if all else fails, pack up some Pimms and Britzels and you’ll be on your way to an easy, wonderful celebration every time.
